Alarm jammer dropped during theft attempt
A York Region couple face charges after someone dropped an alarm jammer while stealing thousands of dollars in product from a Guelph business.
Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to a business on Woodlawn Road West. A loss prevention officer had observed a male and female placing medication, fragrances and toiletries into backpacks stolen from the store. While attempting to leave the business the male dropped a jammer device used to prevent anti-theft alarms from sounding.
Officers arrested both parties, recovering more than $3,200 in stolen property.
Further investigation revealed they were also responsible for a similar theft at the same store in March during which nearly $4,400 worth of items were stolen.
A 25-year-old male and 25-year-old female, both from Maple, are charge with two counts each of theft under $5,000.
Toyota Tacoma stolen from driveway
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Toyota Tacoma was stolen from the west end.
Approximately 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, a male reported his grey 2023 Tacoma pickup missing from his driveway near Stephanie Drive and Imperial Road South. The truck has a matching grey bed cap and fishing and hunting stickers on it.

Hammer wielded during food fraud
A Toronto man faces weapons and other charges after a man wielded a hammer to avoid paying a bar tab in Guelph.
Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, police were called to a downtown establishment. A man had tried to leave without paying his bill and was confronted by an employee. The man removed a hammer from his tool belt and held it over his head while saying he would not pay the bill.
Officers arrived a short time later and located the male nearby. A 30-year-old Toronto man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, food fraud and failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court May 17.
